The House at Logan Circle

Washington, DC

The House at Logan Circle is a quiet, ecofriendly refuge within a dense city neighborhood.  Using a holistic approach, the landscape architects integrated biophilic principles, sustainable techniques and the homeowner’s curatorial sensibility, connecting residents and visitors with nature enclosed by an historic urban property.  Garden rooms form a sequence of compact, interconnected spaces that mitigate heat, muffle noise, and support living systems, enforcing ecological value and resilient landscape ethic.

Guided by the owner’s commitment to environmental stewardship, the landscape architects reimagined the front garden, rear yard, and roof deck as a collective city oasis, creating efficient use of limited outdoor space and maximizing regenerative practices. Water, stone, wood, weathering steel, and native plantings attracting colorful pollinators build a rich sensory environment that supports wellbeing for the owner, their community and the urban ecosystem.  Thoughtfully crafted hardscape details resolved at every scale establish the logic and fabric that creates the functional landscape. Sustainable strategies including rainwater harvesting, recycled materials, solar panels, shading and low maintenance species reflect the project's strong ecological responsibility. The lush, green wall anchors these efforts, promoting biodiversity and ecosystem services while demonstrating that a small urban landscape can uplift the human spirit.
