Ludlow Taylor Elementary School

659 G St NE, Washington, DC 20002

Reflected in the brightly colored play equipment, safety surfacing and native plant species in the “Pollinator Playground” at the Ludlow Taylor Elementary School playground renovation is one of the adjacent DC DOEE Riversmart Classroom's concepts, that of attracting pollinator species with sustainable plantings.  Vibrant colors, flower and hexagon patterned surfacing and insect themed stencils and panels showcase the pollinator theme.  The playground also provides universally accessible and safe play for the large special needs student population.  Overhead structures and a complimentary curvilinear planter wall offer seating, shade and a place for disabled students needing a quiet spot.  Storm water is filtered and collected under the permeable surfacing.
